Anti-Quebec sentiment : ウィキペディア英語版
Anti-Quebec sentiment

Anti-Quebec sentiment is opposition or hostility expressed toward the government, culture, or the francophone people of Quebec.
French-language media in Quebec have termed as Quebec bashing〔Michel David. "Bashing Quebec fashionable in Anglo media," ''The Gazette'', April 21, 2000.〕 what it perceives as defamatory anti-Quebec coverage in the English-language media. They cite examples mostly from the English-Canadian media, and occasionally in coverage from other countries, often based on Canadian sources.〔(Louis Bouchard, "L’identité québécoise jusqu’en Allemagne – Ingo Kolboom, un ami du Québec" ), ''Le Journal Mir'', February 15, 2006, retrieved September 30, 2006〕 Some sovereignist journalists and academics noted that unfavourable depictions of the province by the media increased in the late 1990s after the unsuccessful 1995 Quebec referendum on independence.〔''The Black Book of English Canada'' by Normand Lester, McClelland & Stewart, 2002, p.11, ISBN 2-89448-160-8〕〔("Les dérapages racistes à l'égard du Québec au Canada anglais depuis 1995" ) by Maryse Potvin, ''Politiques et Sociétés,'' vol. XVIII, n.2, 1999〕

French-speaking Quebecers have been criticized by their anglophone counterparts who feel discriminated against because the law requires French as the only working-language (in large companies, since 1977). The expression ''pure laine'' ("pure wool"), used to denote Quebecers of French descent, has often been cited as a manifestation of discriminatory attitudes.〔''Towards a government policy to fight against racism and discrimination - For the full participation of Quebecers from cultural communities'', Canadian Race Relations Foundation Brief presented to the Government of Quebec's Consultation, September 2006, p. 9 retrieved 2009-05-08 ()〕 ''Pure laine'' has been portrayed as an expression of racial exclusion in Quebec, while counter-critics deem the term obsolete.〔("Charest seeks Globe apology over notion culture a factor in school shootings" ), ''The Gazette'', September 19, 2006, retrieved September 20, 2006〕〔Antoine Robitaille. "Les « pures laines » coupables ?" ''La Presse'', September 19, 2006.〕
Critics note the low percentage of minority participation in any level of the Quebec public services.〔Hubert Bauch, "Jan Wong was misguided, maybe. But why the fuss?: Row over story blaming Quebec culture for shooting grabbed attention from real problems", ''The Gazette,'' October 1, 2006, () "They’re not being included in the decision-making fabric of Quebec," () Jedwab said. "If you look at the nominations process, to boards, committees, to various positions, Quebec has an absolutely abysmal record. Its public service by all standards has the lowest representation of visible minorities of any province or state in North America."〕 While some efforts have been made to increase the percentage of minorities (i.e. Montreal Police Force), the public service of Quebec (Société de l'assurance automobile du Québec, MSSS, etc.) is largely European-Canadian and francophone.〔Office of the Commissioner of Official Languages, ''Going Forward, the Evolution of Quebec's English-Speaking Community'' Chapter 9, Anglophone Priorities and Concerns, retrieved 2009-05-09 ()〕
Some writers have described members of this elite as criminals〔("Diane Francis: Books" ), Diane Francis official website, retrieved February 21, 2011〕 and compared them to people such as Pol Pot〔''The Black Book of English Canada'' by Normand Lester, McClelland & Stewart, 2002, p. 22, ISBN 2-89448-160-8〕 or the Devil.〔Robert Dutrisac, "Dérapages racistes au Canada anglais", ''Le Devoir'', 24 November 2001〕〔''The Black Book of English Canada'' by Normand Lester, McClelland & Stewart, 2002, p. 18, ISBN 2-89448-160-8〕 The administration of the Government of Quebec has been described as corrupt, sometimes with the derogatory term of "banana republic".〔''In the Eye of the Eagle'' by Jean-François Lisée, HarperCollins Publishers Ltd, 1990, pp. 164-166, ISBN 0-00-637636-3〕
Language laws in Quebec that promote the use of French and restrict the use of English are believed to reflect nationalist goals designed to preserve and strengthen the French language within the province, which is criticized as excluding non-French speakers. The Commission de protection de la langue française (CPLF), and the Office québécois de la langue française (OQLF) that it has been merged into in 2002, which enforce the Charter of the French Language, have often been called the "language police". It has been criticized for enforcing sign laws requiring that French wording dominate English and other languages on commercial signs. English-speaking Quebecers strongly oppose these sign laws. The public servants of the OQLF have sometimes been compared to the Gestapo or "brown shirts".〔〔Diane Francis. "Quebec language policy isn't funny". April 11, 2000.〕
Some unrelated events have been linked to the independence movements and the language laws, such as the departure of the Expos baseball club from Montreal,〔Jonathan Kay. "Separatism killed the Expos". ''The National Post'', October 23, 2002.〕 suicide rates in Quebec and has affected tourism in the province.〔(David Stonehouse, "Quebec's suicide rate blamed on separatist tension in new book" ), ''Ottawa Citizen'', September 27, 1999, retrieved September 26, 2006〕〔Pierre O'Neill. "Bertrand compare la «dictature» péquiste à celle du IIIe Reich", ''Le Devoir'', December 3, 1997.〕
